What I Do
Math Tutoring That Meets Students Where They Are
Every student comes to tutoring needing something a little different. Some need help with what they’re learning in class right now. Others have gaps from earlier years that are making current math harder. Some need extra practice, help preparing for a test, or are ready to get ahead.
I don’t follow one set plan for every student. We use our time where it will help most.
What We Work On
Homework is often a good place to start because it shows me what a student is learning and where they may be getting stuck. But the goal isn’t just to finish an assignment.
If I notice there’s an earlier skill getting in the way, we go back and work on it. If there’s a test coming up, we prepare for it. If a student is ready to move ahead, we can do that too.
Sometimes we slow down. Sometimes I explain something a different way. Sometimes we practice until it sticks.
It really depends on the student and what they need that day.
Homeschool Math Support
I also work with homeschool students and can support the curriculum your family is already using. We can work through difficult concepts, strengthen skills, keep up with assignments, or move ahead when your student is ready.
Math Mentors is an approved vendor with Visions In Education and Compass Charter Schools. Families enrolled with either program may be able to use available educational funds for math tutoring, subject to their school’s guidelines and approval.
My Teaching Background
My seven years as a classroom math teacher gave me a strong understanding of how math concepts build from one year to the next.
That experience helps me recognize when the problem in front of us may actually be connected to something a student learned earlier. When something isn’t clicking, we can go back, figure out where things got off track, and try another way.
Working Together
Parents know their kids better than anyone, so I appreciate knowing when something is coming up at school or when you’ve noticed your child struggling with something.
My goal is pretty simple: help with what your student needs right now while building the skills and confidence!
